Cellist Dale Henderson on Spectrum West March 21, 2019

RIVER FALLS – New York cellist Dale Henderson will talk about his project “Bach in The Subways” with host Al Ross on Spectrum West, which airs at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 21 on Wisconsin Public Radio’s The Ideas Network stations 88.3 WHWC-FM/ Menomonie-Eau Claire and 88.7 WRFW-FM/River Falls. Two Red Cedar Symphony Orchestra concerts, a musical celebrating Chippewa Falls’ 150th birthday and a book about a Wisconsin Civil War captain will also be featured.

Ross will join East Coast cellist Dale Henderson on Johannes Bach’s 334th birthday to discuss Henderson’s ongoing project, “Bach in The Subways.” In 2010, fearing that classical music was dying, Henderson took the music to the streets for anyone to hear. He will share how the celebration got to be an international affair and how musicians can participate.

Conductor Ivar Lunde, Jr. will stop by to provide more information about Red Cedar Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming spring concerts. The orchestra will perform on March 30 in Cumberland and March 31 in Rice Lake.

Jerry Way will meet with Ross to discuss his musical “Chippewa Falls 1869, The Musical.” The production was originally produced and performed in 2011, but will return to the stage with new scenes and songs this month to commemorate the city’s sesquicentennial. Performances will run March 28-31 at the Heyde Center in Chippewa Falls.

Special Correspondent Jim Oliver visits with Menomonie Middle School history teacher Michael J. Larson. He is co-editor of the book Dear Delia – The Civil War Letters of Captain Henry F. Young of The Seventh Wisconsin Infantry.
