Prescott stays strong to win fourth straight regional title

The Prescott Boys' Basketball Team held off a determined challenge from St. Croix Central to win its fourth straight WIAA Division 3 regional title Saturday evening 83-68 at Prescott High School.

The No. 6 ranked Cardinals, 21-3 overall, led from start to finish, building a double-digit lead at halftime and holding it for much of the second half. The Panthers, 12-12 overall, never got closer than eight points late in the second half as PHS made its free-throws and held onto the ball for the win.

Unofficially, Pete Brookshaw led the Cards in scoring with 27 points. Senior guard Luke Murphy finished with 21 points, including an 11-of-12 effort at the free-throw line and senior 7-1 center Owen Hamilton scored 18 points.  SCC's Trevor Nelson led all scorers with 32 points.

Prescott advances to the sectional semifinal Thursday, March 9 vs. Maple Northwestern, 20-4 overall, at River Falls High School with the tip-time at 7 p.m. This will be the third straight time the Cards' have played the Tigers in the sectionals.
