MADISON - The 2016-17 Prescott High School Boys' Basketball Season came to an end in the championship of the state tournament. An outcome only reserved for two out of over hundred ballclubs in Division 3 in Wisconsin.
However only one team can come away with first place and turned out to be Appleton Xavier. The No. 2 ranked Hawks finished the season undefeated with a 73-47 win over No. 6 Prescott in the Division 3 finals of the WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Kohl Center.
PHS held a 17-10 lead when Xavier, 28-0, outscored them 24-9 to take a 34-25 lead at halftime. The Hawks pushed that margin further and further away from the Cardinals, 24-4 overall, in the second half, outscoring them 39-22. Xavier had four players in double figures led by guard Hunter Plamann with 29 points.
Owen Hamilton, PHS's 7-1 senior center, closed his high school career with a double-double 21 points and 16 rebounds. Fellow senior Luke Murphy finished with 10 points in his final contest and senior Nick Simon scored four points. Junior guard Pete Brookshaw finished with five points and played 34 minutes fighting through illness. Fellow junior Joe Roosen scored three points for PHS.
