But the No. 6 ranked Cardinals pulled away from the Tigers for a 75-59 win and advanced to their fourth straight sectional championship contest. The Cards, 22-3 overall, will play Mauston, 18-7 overall, who upset No. 9 Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 68-65 in the other semifinal contest Thursday evening in Osseo.
Prescott's 7-1 senior center Owen Hamilton pumped in 37 points to lead all scorers, including 22 in the first half alone. PHS's Pete Brookshaw finished with 16 points, Luke Murphy scored nine points, Joe Roosen seven and Nick Simon scored six points. Riley Stowers and Alex Tecker both had 13 points for Northwestern, 20-5 overall.
PHS will face a Mauston squad which trailed 43-34 at halftime to G-E-T. The Red Hawks, 20-5 overall, could not stop the Golden Eagles' 6-2 senior point guard Tarren Hall, who had a game-high 37 points, the bulk coming in the Eagles' second half rally.
Saturday's championship game is at Menomonie High School with tip-time at 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale at PHS until the end of the school day with a max limit of 10 at $5 each. Tickets can be purchased at the door and the ticket booth will open at noon.
Prescott will play for its second state tournament bid and first since 2015. Mauston has played in two state tournaments but its last trip to Madison came in 1974.
