PHS Boys Basketball Team opens tournament play tonight

The Prescott High School Boys’ Basketball Team will be back in action Friday evening at home in the semifinal round of the WIAA Division 3 regional tournament.

The No. 7 ranked Cardinals, 19-3 overall, are the No. 1 seed in their sectional half-bracket of the Menomonie Sectional. They will face either No. 8 seed Barron, 6-17 overall. The Golden Bears won their first round game 51-43 over No. 9 seed Baldwin-Woodville Tuesday.

Barron finished seventh in the Heart O'North Conference. The Bears' leading scorer is senior Ryan Erickson averaging 12.2 points per game.

The winner of this regional semifinal game will face either No. 4 seed Osceola, 14-8 overall, and No. 5 St. Croix Central, 11-11 overall, on Saturday evening at the location of the highest remaining seed which will be Prescott if the Cardinals win Friday.

Prescott swept the season series with Baldwin-Woodville, Osceola and St. Croix Central in the middle of a 46-game conference winning streak. Osceola has given the Cards their toughest tussles in Middle Border Conference play this season, losing by 15 at Prescott and taking the Cardinal to
double overtime in Osceola before losing.
Prescott has won the last three regional titles. The winner will play in the sectional semifinals in River Falls on Thursday, March 9. The sectional final is in Menomonie on March 11 at 1 p.m.
