State tournament begins today for PHS wrestlers

Prescott High School wrestlers Ethan Tulip and Ty Sanford will compete in the 74th annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Individual Wrestling Tournament this evening at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Both will wrestle in Division 2 preliminary round matches beginning at 7 p.m. Prescott last had two wrestlers at the state meet in 2015 where Sam Stuhl won a state championship at 120 pounds and Paul Hansen placed sixth at 138.

Tulip (32-13) will face Richland Center freshman Max Weber (34-4) at 106 pounds while Sanford goes up against Peshtigo senior Cam Lepkowski (36-11) at 195 pounds. If Tulip and Sanford win they will wrestle again Friday at 11 a.m. in the quarterfinals and will have two matches on the day. If not, they are both eliminated from the tournament.
