MADISON - Prescott's Ty Sanford will be on the awards stand this evening as he won a match in yesterday's action at the 74th WIAA State Wrestling Tournament inside the Kohl Center.
After losing a 14-0 major decision to Evansville/Albany's undefeated Lucius Rinehart in the quarterfinals at 195 pounds in Division 2, Sanford came back in the consolation round to beat Derrick Rotta of Waupaca 13-1.
Sanford can finish somewhere between third through sixth place depending on the outcome of two placing matches today. He becomes the first PHS wrestler to place in the state tournament since 2015.
PHS's Ethan Tulip lost both of his matches yesterday at 106 pounds and was knocked out of the tournament.
