The No. 7 seeded Cardinals smashed No. 10 Spooner 66-41 Tuesday evening at Prescott High School to advance to Friday's scheduled regional semifinal game at No. 2 seed and MBC champion Somerset.
Katelyn Miller scored career high 18 points for the Cardinals and teammate Kelsey Penk added 11 points. Last year the team was eliminated from the tournament in the first round losing to a winless Ellsworth squad.
Instead, PHS improves to 9-14 overall as they'll face the 18-3 and conference rival Spartans. The winner plays in the regional final Saturday against either No. 3 seed St. Croix Central or No. 6 Baldwin-Woodville, which advanced in the tournament last night with a 63-31 win over No. 11 Ellsworth.
