The Prescott City Council upheld Mayor Hovel's veto of a Class A liquor and beer license for the new Dollar General store at its recent meeting Monday evening at the city building.
The vote was 4-0 of the four alderpersons attending the meeting. Had all four voted against it would have been overturned. However, council members Galen Seipel, Bill Dravis, Maureen Otwell and Robert Daugherty agreed with the Mayor's reasons for the veto: that Dollar General did not have currently or had plans to monitor or block access to the area where beer and liquor would be sold to minors or after certain hours of the business day.
The license was approved by the board at its last meeting by a 4-1 vote with Daugherty voting against. The mayor had made his veto last week Friday.
