Prescott City Council approves letter not opposing shooting range in Oak Grove Township

The Prescott City Council unanimously supported issue an official city letter stating no objections to a proposed shooting range to be located near the Prescott City Compost Site in Oak Grove Township. The motion was approved at the council's most recent meeting Monday evening.

The range is being proposed by the Prescott Sportsman's Club to go with a planned clubhouse to be built on the same property, which was sold to them by the city a year ago. The range will be used for trap shooting, particularly by the Prescott High School Trap Shooting Team.

Opposition has arisen to the proposed shooting range being located near homes in the area due to potential noise and safety concerns. The letter states that only buckshot from shotgun shells will be used at the range and that a study taken by the Club of noise levels indicate it would not be a nusiance to neighboring homes.

The Oak Grove Township Board will take up the matter of shooting range at its monthly meeting Monday evening starting at 7:30 p.m.
