PHS volleyball team downs Somerset in five games

The Prescott High School volleyball team won its first game in its new home Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals won the first varsity competition in their new school building gymnasium, the Homecoming game in fact, by a 3-2 margin over Middle Border Conference rival Somerset 3-2.

PHS got their nerves and other distractions out them after a 14-25 Game 1 loss by building up big leads on the Spartans in Games 2 and 3 and holing on to win them both 25-20. They did the same in Game 4 but Somerset's rally overturned a Prescott lead and the Spartans, 0-2 on the MBC, won 25-19 to force a Game 5. But there Prescott early lead held up for a 15-10 win.

The Millers, Bekah and Katelyn combined for 37 of Prescott's teams kills.

The Cards improve to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Prescott hosts New Richmond Thursday, with the match starting at 7 p.m.

Prescott's Cassie Janovec knocks this return of a serve into the air with Ali Murphy (4) and Haley Miner (3) getting into position to set the ball.
