Pirates fall in 11 innings in quarterfinals of state tourney

MERRILL - The Prescott Pirates' 2016 season came to an end Friday evening in the 68th Wisconsin Baseball Association State Tournament at Athletics Park.

Prescott dropped a 4-3 ballgame to fellow No. 1 seed Osseo after the Merchants scored the winning run in the 11th inning on an error.

The Pirates led 1-0 after their first at bats. Alex Ross scored on a double steal after getting on base with a double. He led Prescott with two hits.

Osseo took the lead 3-1 before Prescott plated runs in the seventh and the eighth to tie the score. Ryan Burmeister's RBI-single in the eighth plated Derrick Pfeffer.

Prescott concludes its season with a 23-5 record while Osseo moved on to take on Elmwood, which edged Brill in the nightcap quarterfinal game Friday.

WBA state games have been moved back Saturday due to rain. The tournament will conclude Sunday.

This was Prescott's fifth straight appearance in the state tournament. See more of the story in next week's Prescott Journal.

Prescott's Derrick Munson knocks the ball into the air on a bunt during Friday's WBA State Tournament contest in Merrill vs. Osseo.
