At some point, the honors Mike Meier receives won’t come as a surprise to him.
That’s because the work Meier does or has done for the Prescott and Pierce County communities doesn’t seem so extraordinary to his viewpoint. It’s simply someone stepping up and taking responsibility for what needs to be done.
“I volunteer in order to get the job done,” Meier said. “I’ve never thought about it any other way.”
But while Meier takes a modest tact, others in the Prescott and Pierce County communities don’t want to let all the work Meier has done on his own time go unnoticed. Just a few weeks ago the 64-year old Prescott native received the award for Most Celebrated Senior Citizen in Pierce County at the fair in Ellsworth. Now he’s been chosen to be the 44th Grand Marshal in the Prescott Daze Parade, which will take place Sunday, Sept. 11 starting 2 p.m. on corner of Canton and Albert streets. Both of these honors, he said, came as a “shock” to him.
“I couldn’t believe it, yet one of the guys from the Knights who introduced me at the fair said ‘You deserve it for all you’ve done over the years.’ “
