Pirates get weekend sweep, now back in first place in division

A weekend road sweep for the Prescott Pirates propelled them into first place in the St. Croix Valley League's St. Croix Division.

Prescott topped Hudson 11-0 Saturday and won in extra innings over Elmwood 7-4 Sunday.

The Pirates 4-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth was shattered with Adam Churchill's two-run homer for Elmwood.

But Prescott plated three runs in the top of the 11th after loading the bases. Billy Brookshaw's RBI-sacrifice scored Conner Cress and then brother Mike Brookshaw blasted two RBI-double which gave the Pirates an insured three-run lead which allowed winning pitcher Jesse Tollefson to collect win thanks so several key infield defensive plays.

Prescott is 10-2 in the league and 14-4 overall. The Pirates are at Hastings, Minn. for the River Rumble game Friday at 8 p.m. Prescott hosts Plum City Saturday at 1 p.m. at Firehall Field then travels to Bay City Sunday for a 1 p.m. game at Hortenbach Park.
