PHS student dies in car crash in Clifton Township

CLIFTON - Tyler Orpen, 16, a student at Prescott High School, was killed in a two-vehicle accident last Tuesday evening on CTH. FF near 1015th St.

The accident was reported at 5:37 p.m. According to reports,  Orpen was traveling eastbound on CTH. FF in a 2001 Ford Focus when the car went off the road onto the gravel shoulder, over-corrected, then spun into the westbound lane. Coming towards the Focus at the same time was a 2011 Dodge Ram truck driven by Joseph Timmers, 61, of St. Paul Park, Minn. Reports stated the truck tried to swerve to avoid the Focus but both vehicles collided in a ditch and eventually ended up in a corn field where they caught fire.

Orpen was taken to River Falls Area Hospital where he pronounced dead while Timmers was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Emergency and law enforcement personnel at the scene included the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, River Falls Police, River Falls Fire and River Falls Ambulance.
