PHS's Kleinschmidt qualifies for finals at state meet

LA CROSSE - Prescott High School hurdler Jennifer Kleinschmidt made it into the finals of the 100-meter high hurdles at the WIAA State Track and Field Meet.

Kleinschmidt will run in the girls' Division 2 finals in the event Saturday. The meet will begin at 10:30 at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the UW-La Crosse campus.

Kleinschmidt was one of 10 qualifiers for the finals and she came from the slow heat as well. She ran a time of :16.53 in her prelim race Friday which helped her claim the ninth qualifying spot.

"Our coaches told me to run my race today and not worry about anything else and I did," Kleinschmidt said afterward.

Also competing for PHS on Friday was the girls' 3200-meter relay team. Despite running a season-best time of 9:55, the Cardinal quartet of Molly Sweet, Sam Ritter, Hayley Hillman and Annika Carlson, finished ninth. Nolan Schock ran in the 800-meters later in the day and finished third in his heat with a time of 2:01.53. That was good for 13th place overall.

Saturday will feature the boys' 3200-meter team competing for PHS along with Kleinschmidt and then Sweet in the mile run.

Prescott's Jennifer Kleinschmidt finishes ahead of the Black River Falls' runner Haley Beams in the WIAA State Meet prelims in the 100-meter high hurdles who finished ahead of her at last week's sectional meet.
