ELLSWORTH - The trial of Kari Jo Milberg began last Friday at the Pierce County Courthouse. The proceedings began at 8:30 a.m. and last until almost 5 p.m.
Milberg, from Centuria, stands accused of reckless driving and negligent homicide in the death of
her daughter and two nieces, one being from Prescott, in a two-vehicle accident in Oak Grove Township
back in December of 2013.
The first stag of the trial was jury selection. A pool of 24 was seated out of which 14 were chosen and sworn in after both DA Sean Froelich and defense attorney Aaron Nelson made their strikes from the pool. The jurors were then excused at 4:01 p.m. Both attorneys agreed on jury instructions.
The remainder of the time in court dealt with motions on different witnesses and evidence to be used during the trial. A defense motion on time of the 911 call after the accident and open records request by Nelson to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department will be ruled on Monday.
The trial is scheduled to to last the entire week. Each session will begin at 8:30 a.m.
