PHS softball team edges Ellsworth, Cardinal baseball team shutout by B-W

Prescott High School diamond teams had divergent outcomes in their Middle Border Conference ballgames Thursday afternoon.

The Cardinal softball team won at Ellsworth 1-0 while the PHS baseball team was beaten by Baldwin-Woodville 3-0 at Firehall Field.

Winning pitcher Kaili Wescott pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts as Prescott's defense held on tight to the slender 1-0 lead they had for four innings. Katie Miller's RBI-double scored McKenzie Carey from first base for Prescott's lone run against the Panthers. The win improves PHS to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the MBC.

However, the Cardinal baseball team struggled against a Baldwin-Woodville squad on a winning streak. PHS stranded 10 base runners and were plagued by four official errors and numerous other mistakes which kept them from plating a run and allowed the Blackhawks to control the game throughout.

The loss was Prescott's second in a row and leaves them at 9-5 overall and 5-4 in the MBC.
