To prepare for playoff action, the Prescott High School baseball team faced a strong non-conference foe when they hosted Ashland in a doubleheader Saturday at Firehall Field.
Ashland took the first game of the series 10-6, and appeared to have a sweep in hand as the Oredockers were leading 7-2 late in game two. However, that’s when the Cardinals put on an amazing rally in front of their home fans, scoring seven times late in the game to pull out a thrilling 9-7 come-from-behind victory.
To start the comeback in the fifth, Zach Dolan belted a double that scored two runs to cut Ashland’s lead t 7-5. With the bases loaded and one out, Mike Harris blasted a long hit to the leftfield fence to tie the game.
Then, after the Cardinals got out of jam in the top of the sixth with some smart defensive play, things were set up for a dramatic inning for the Cardinals. Brookshaw knocked out a double in the sixth, and Jesse Sommer came through with a huge hit to score two runs and give Prescott an improbable 9-7 win.
Prescott's record is now 15-7 overall, 8-5 in the Middle Border Conference.
