PHS Baseball team clinches MBC title, Softball advances

Prescott High School's diamond teams were all diamonds in action Tuesday.

The Cardinal baseball team dominated Osceola on the road by a 12-0 score, clinching a share of the Middle Border Conference title. Freshman Matt Langer pitched a four-hit shutout. PHS plated eight runs in the top of the fifth inning with Nick Simon bringing home two of them with a double.

It is the 27th baseball conference championship in PHS history. Prescott opens WIAA Division 2 tournament play at home this Thursday against St. Croix Central. The Cardinals conclude the regular season with records of 16-7 overall and 9-5 in the Middle Border Conference.

Meanwhile, the Prescott High School softball team won its WIAA Division 2 regional tournament opener yesterday at home vs. Ashland. The Cardinals topped the Oredockers 15-0 in four innings of play. The Cards improve to 22-1 overall, their 13th straight victory.

PHS will take on Osceola this evening in a regional semifinal contest at Biggs Field in Prescott with the first pitch at 5 p.m. The Chieftains defeated Barron in their first-round game.
