AMERY - The Prescott High School baseball and softball teams both played in Amery Tuesday evening and both came away with wins.
For the PHS baseball team, it was a much-needed win snapping a two-game losing streak. The Cardinals edged the Warriors 1-0. Mike Harris had the team's lone run, scoring on an infield error in the top of the sixth inning. Prescott only had three hits in the game so tough defense and strong pitching carried the Cards to the win. Freshman Matt Langer started the game on the mound for PHS followed by Elliot Deutsch in the sixth inning, who got the win, and Peter Brookshaw who pitched the seventh and got the save. Prescott improves to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in the MBC, still in the conference title chase. PHS hosts Pine Island, Minn. Friday starting at 5 p.m. at Firehall Field.
Prescott's softball team beat Amery at home also by a 1-0 score a month ago. Yesterday at Amery the Cardinals had an easier time with the Warriors, who are winless in league play, winning by an 11-4 margin. PHS improves to 16-1 overall and 8-1 in the MBC. Prescott is back at home Thursday with a league game vs. Somerset 5 p.m. at Biggs Field. PHS will host New Richmond on Friday, also at 5 p.m.
