Busy day of prep sports for PHS teams

All of Prescott High School's sports teams were in action at once Tuesday.

The Cardinal softball team blanked Osceola 12-0 in five innings at Osceola for its third straight shutout win. Prescott improved to 19-1 overall and 11-1 in the Middle Border Conference. The Cards host New Richmond this afternoon at 5 p.m. at Biggs Field.

PHS's boys' golf team had one of its best finishes in the Middle Border Conference full meet in years in fifth with season-best 18-hole score of 371 at Pheasant Hills Golf Course in Hammond. Senior Bailey Benck tied for fourth individually with a score of 85 which pushed him into second team All-MBC.

Prescott's baseball team, however, took a tough MBC loss to St. Croix Central in Hammond by a 5-4 score. The Redbirds saw their three-game winning streak snapped  and dropped to 12-6 overall, 7-5 in the MBC. However, PHS is still tied for first place in the league because both Ellsworth and New Richmond lost Tuesday as well.

Finally, the Prescott Track and Field team competed in the Middle Border Conference meet at Ellsworth. The boys finished eighth in the team standings and the girls placed fifth. Meet champions for the Cardinal were the girls' 3200-meter relay team, Phil Pena in the 3200-meter run and Jennifer Kleinschmidt in the 100-meter high hurdles.

PHS golfer Payton Bartsch lifts the ball towards the green on hole No. 9 at Pheasant Hills in the MBC meet.
