Prescott swept a doubleheader against Durand. The Cardinals won the first game 3-1, and the second game by a 6-2 final.
With a switch this season to the Dunn-St. Croix Conference, the Panthers were leading their division early in the season. So it appeared to be a good test for Prescott on a nice, sunny but a bit windy afternoon for baseball at Firehall Field in Prescott Saturday.
That seemed to be a key moment in the game as Prescott scored two times in the bottom of the second inning to grab a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Harris.
Prescott held on to its 3-1 advantage but in the top of the seventh the Panthers tried to rally and loaded the bases with two outs, but a ground out ended the game and preserved the win for the Cardinals.
In game two, the Cardinals took an early lead and coasted to a 6-2 victory. Severson had two hits with a RBI while Brookshaw also drove in a run. Sommer had a sacrifice fly to score a run while Brad Schommer also got a hit. Left-handed pitcher Dan Knopf had another solid outing on the mound by holding Durand to four hits in five innings.
PHS improves to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the MBC. The Cardinals host Somerset on Tuesday. See more on the PHS's week in baseball in next print edition of the Prescott Journal, on newsstands Wednesday.
