EAU CLAIRE- In an effort to support growing electric demand in the Prescott area as a result of ongoing economic growth, Xcel Energy will begin making several upgrades to its substation at the intersection of Locust and Sycamore streets beginning this month.
As part of the work, Xcel Energy crews will need to take a temporary planned outage for all of Prescott and some of the surrounding area early Sunday morning, April 10, at 2 a.m. The outage will last approximately one hour and is necessary for crews to safely complete preliminary work at the substation. In case of inclement weather, the outage will take place at the same time early Monday morning, April 11.
Xcel Energy has been preparing for this project for several years and in 2015 began the initial site work at the substation. Throughout the summer and fall, crews will upgrade both the high voltage transmission and lower voltage distributions facilities that serve the area.
