PHS softball team stays unbeaten, baseball team falls to New Richmond

The Prescott High School Softball Team stayed undefeated in the 2016 regular season as they edged Ellsworth 7-5 Tuesday at Biggs Field.

Despite several defensive miscues, Prescott was able to hold on to the lead as they had a 1-2-3 seventh inning to complete the game. Kaili Wescott was the winning pitcher. Key RBI hits from Hope Miner and Katie Miller in the fifth inning put Prescott ahead 7-3.

PHS improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Middle Border Conference. Prescott hosts Amery on Thursday at 5 p.m. and is at Somerset on Friday.

The Prescott High School Baseball Team, however, lost to New Richmond at Firehall Field yesterday 4-1 to drop to .500 in the MBC at 2-2, 4-3 overall.

The Cardinals lone run came in the second when Mike Harris scored on an error. He got on base with a double. That tied the score at 1-1 but NR scored two runs in the third to take a 3-1 lead and added a run in the seventh. Prescott stranded nearly 10 base runners in the late innings as they were unable to get the big hits they needed.

Prescott is at St. Croix Central Thursday. They take on Durand Saturday in a doubleheader.

Prescott catcher Hope Miner throws to put out an Ellsworth base runner at second.
