Prescott boys hoops moves on to sectional finals

RIVER FALLS - The No. 8 ranked Prescott High School boys' basketball team downed Maple Northwestern for the second season in a row in the WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinals, this time by a score of 74-51 Thursday.

The Cardinals, 22-3 overall, will take No. 1 ranked and unbeaten Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, 25-0, Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the finals of the Eau Claire North Sectional at Eau Claire North High School.

PHS led 41-19 at halftime and maintained their double-digit lead in the second half despite foul trouble for several Cardinal players. Northwestern, 18-6, overall, got as close as 55-40 midway through the second half but no closer.

Peter Brookshaw led PHS in scoring with 21 points followed by Mike Harris's 14, 12 for Nick Gehlen and 10 points each for Keegan Nielsen and Owen Hamilton. Riley Stowers led Northwestern with 14 points.
