PHS boys' basketball team win third straight regional title

The No. 8 ranked Prescott High School Boys' Basketball Team won its third straight regional title and fourth in the last five seasons as they defeated Barron in the finals of the WIAA Division 3 regional tournament 72-46 Saturday evening in the final contest at The Nest in Prescott.

PHS jumped out to a 20-2 advantage and led at halftime 42-20. The Golden Bears, 17-7 overall, came no closer than 19 points in the second half.

Mike Harris led the Cardinals, 21-3 overall, in scoring with 19 points. Teammates Keegan Nielsen finished 16 points, Peter Brookshaw 14 points and Owen Hamilton had 12 points.

Barron's Rece Dietrich led all scorers with 29 points but no one else for the Bears had more than six points, for 6-8 center Ethan Weaver.

No. 1 seeded PHS will face No. 2 seed and Heart O' North Conference Champion Maple Northwestern, 18-5 overall, next Thursday in River Falls in the semifinals of the Eau Claire North Sectional Tournament. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
