PHS girls snap losing streak by dowing Ellsworth 53-38

The Prescott High School girls' basketball team snapped an eight-game losing streak by defeating Highway 10 rival Ellsworth 53-38 Friday evening at Prescott High School.

Jennifer Kleinschmidt led the way for the Cardinals in scoring as she put in 16 points. Teammate Heather Furlong finished with 12 points and four made three-point shots. PHS made six trifectas to Ellsworth's two.

The Cardinals, 6-15 overall, 6-7 in the Middle Border Conference, jumped out to a 36-10 lead at halftime despite the fact they were playing their fourth game in five days. They held the winless Panthers to just two made field goals in the first half. EHS has lost 26 straight ballgames and 19 in league play alone.

Freshman Emma Swanson led the Panthers in scoring with 11 points. Prescott also got six points from junior Kelsey Penk and five points each from Ali Murphy and Kate Miller.

PHS will look to close its regular season on a winning streak as they host St. Croix Central at home next Thursday. Read more on this game and busy week of basketball for the Prescott girls in next week's Prescott Journal, on newsstands next Wednesday.
