Chief Krutke wants to rev' up enforcement of motorcycle laws this spring

Prescott Police Chief Gary Krutke hopes more police presence in Prescott during spring weekends will help to cut down any problems caused by the large number of motorcyclists who come through town.

"We're not establishing any new laws or policies, we're enforcing the ones we have," Krutke said.

That includes enforcing city codes on parking and preventing burnouts on city streets. Krutke hopes to deploy many part-time officers during weekend shifts hoping the police presence will keep spring, summer and fall weekends orderly and possibly cut down on accidents outside of town as well.

"On some weekends we can have as many as 30,000 bikers ride through Prescott," Krutke said. "While it's impossible to watch everything, more police presence will have an effect on controlling disorderly behavior through such presence and hopefully with people policing themselves."

More on this in next week's Prescott Journal, on newsstands Wednesday.
