Voting in Clifton may take place at a golf course in 2016, new town hall info meeting on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

CLIFTON - The possibility of voting in the Township of Clifton at one of the two golf courses in the township in the 2016 November Election was broached during the town board meeting Tuesday evening.

Town clerk Judy Clement-Lee mentioned the possibility of using the clubhouses at either Clifton Hollow Golf Course or Clifton Highlands Golf Course as alternative voting sites for the fall election rather than the town hall.

The hall lacks bathroom facilities and is too small to accomodate a large turnout of voters, as took place in 2012. Clement-Lee pointed out that lines of voters went right out the door into the parking lot and onto CTH. FF where the hall is located. Not to mention the fact the possibilities the hall, which was built before the turn of the 20th Century, could lose could power or heat during the conduct of the voting. She also stated it would be very hard to find election day workers in the future without bathroom facilities which the hall does not have.

All this comes as the town board is considering the idea of building a new town hall. An informational meeting on the topic will take place Thursday evening starting at 7 p.m. at the town hall. The question of an alternative voting site for the fall election is whether a new town hall, if it is built, will be finished in time for the election.
