How’s this to pop the question?
“How would you like to have our wedding be at Lambeau Field?”
Earlier this fall John Schmitz went onto the Green Bay Packer team website and had his attention caught by a simple pop-up ad.
“It was an ad for a contest where the winner receives a $10,000 wedding at Lambeau Field,” Schmitz said. “And I just filled out my name, put down my number, address without really thinking about it. I never win at these contests so it was something I did for the heck of it.”
Eight couples were chosen over an eight-week period during the Packers’ regular season. Neither Schmitz or his fiancé Jessica Ptacek were chosen. But earlier this month John received a call that threw their plans in the air and started their dreams growing big. And area residents have a chance to keep those dreams growing.
“One of the finalists dropped out and thus we were chosen next,” Schmitz said. “Of course, then I had to tell Jessica I entered the both of us.”
Ptacek didn’t mind. The 27-year old Prescott native, who works as a nurse at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, has been a Packers’ fan all her life.
“He called me as soon as he heard we were one of the finalists and it was the wedding proposal –
‘How do you feel about getting married at Lambeau?’, “ Ptacek said. “I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe you could get married there. It’s wonderful!”
