Prescott Judge Patrick Eich had requested a 98 percent increase in funding of his muncipal court budget during a recent meeting of the Prescott City Council's finance committee back on Oct. 7
Eich said the increase was largely due to changes in court operating, especially when it comes to handling drug cases. He was looking to attach jail time to some drug offenses which would increase his salary $25,000 along with $4,000 for travel expenses along with increase of $21,000 in jail fees.
Prescott Police Chief Gary Krutke spoke to the council recently about a dramatic increase in drug cases within the city. The proposed city budget calls for an 11 percent increase in public safety
According to the committee meeting minutes, council members and Prescott Mayor David Hovel at such a large increase and asked to pair it down within the three percent increase in the tax levy which he did. He present the revised budget at the Oct. 14meeting of the finance committee.
This proposal will be part of the larger city budget which will be voted during the city council meeting of Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
