PHS girls hoops lose first game of season

The Prescott High School girls' basketball team was beaten 53-19 by Glenwood City Thursday evening, spoiling the season-opener for the Cardinals Thursday evening at Prescott.

GC led 26-11 at halftime and outscored PHS 27-8 in the second half. They were paced by Gabrielle Peterson's game-high 15 points. It marked the first contest for both teams played under the new halves system rather than quarters in the state of Wisconsin.

"Glenwood City is very good team, one of the best we'll see in our schedule this season," PHS head coach Ron Murphy said. "It was a tough draw for us given where we're at right now."

Jen Kleinschmidt led Prescott in scoring with nine points. Teammate Kelsey Penk finished with six.

Prescott is back in action next Tuesday at home again vs. New Richmond. Tip time is at 7:30 p.m.

Prescott's Kate Miller (45) looks to throw in an in-bounds pass during Thursday's contest vs Glenwood City.
