The Prescott High School volleyball team will face Somerset in the first round of their WIAA Division 2 prep volleyball regional tournament next Tuesday at Prescott. The match begins at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals wound up the regular season Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep of Amery. They finish with a 41-6 overall record, 7-0 in the Middle Border Conference. PHS was won two straight MBC titles.
However, the Cards are only the No. 2 in their eight-team regional tournament bracket. The No. 1 seed is Altoona, the champions of the Cloverbelt West Conference. The Railroaders had been in the state coaches' Division 2 rankings until this week. They will play for the overall Cloverbelt Conference title tonight against Spencer.
If Prescott wins they will host either No. 3 seed Osceola or No. 6 Ellsworth next Thursday. The other half of the bracket has No. 1 Altoona vs. No. 8 St. Croix Central and No. 4 Bloomer vs. No. 5 Baldwin-Woodville.
The regional final is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. with the highest remaining seed the host. PHS is aiming for its first regional title in volleyball since 1984. The Cardinals were in the finals last season.
PHS will face a Somerset squad they just beat 3-2 in their conference match of the season.
